Dystopic Scenario in 2014

For students in 2014…

  • An average college tuition costs $8,890 for a 4-year public in-state college (According to AACC )
  • 70% who graduated from public and nonprofit colleges in 2013 had a student loan debt of an average of $28,400 per borrower. (According to the Project on Student Debt)
  • Federal student loans can be canceled upon the death of the borrower. Therefore, students will not inherit any student loans from their parents. You can only inherit loans if you cosigned one of your parent’s loans or accounts. (According to CNN money)
  • The average debt among graduate who borrowed to get a bachelor’s degree was $25,300 in 2012 (According to collegeboard)
  • 5% of college graduates between the ages of 21 and 24 were unemployed. The unemployment rate for all college grads over the age of 25 is 3.3 percent. (According to the federal reserve bank of New York)
  • 44% of grads were working in jobs that didn’t require a college degree in 2012. (According to Pew Research Center)
  • Non-tenure-track faculty account for about half of all faculty appointments in American higher education. Part-time faculty now holds 38% of faculty appointments. Non-tenure-track full-time faculty holds 20% of faculty appointments (According to aaup)
  • From 2012-2013, the average salary was $178,600 for a chief executive officer (president). For administrators, the average salary was $113,700. (According to the 2013 administrative and mid-level professional salary survey report.)
